A week ago this morning, and/or, (last Friday), I received a fun little “ditty” from my friend Norma, and/or “Normal” ..from out yonder in the Golden State, ..and/or, California.

According to Merriam-Webster: “dit·ty,” (in context), A literary composition.

The Un-Dead..

zombies - graphic 1

In popular culture…

As fictional undead creatures, “zombies” are regularly encountered in horror and fantasy themed novels and movies.

They are typically depicted as mindless, reanimated corpses with a hunger for human flesh, (and in particular), ..for human brains.

Although “zombies” share their name and a few superficial similarities with the (zombie from Haitian Vodun), their links to such folklore are unclear…

Many consider George A. Romero’s film “Night of the Living Dead” to be the progenitor of these creatures. Zombies have a complex literary heritage, with predecessors ranging from Richard Matheson and H. P. Lovecraft, …

movie poster 1933 - Frankenstei (Mary Shelley’s) “Frankenstein,” all drawing on European mythology of the undead.

The popularity of zombies in movies has led to them having been taken out of their usual element of “horror” and thrown into other genres, …

The “zombie apocalypse” concept, in which the civilized world is brought low by a global zombie infestation, has become a staple of modern popular art.

By 2011 the influence of zombies in popular consciousness had reached far enough that the United States government’s “Center for Disease Control” used the idea as a theme to promote disaster preparedness.

Obama consulting Washington

(Obama consulting Washington, – not George, ..Denzel).

Conversation reportedly overheard by an anonymous source as follows…

Obama; “Hey Bro, ..waz up, ..any thoughts on what can I do to recover my street cred?

Washington; “Definitely Bro, ..appoint more zombies!

In Africa…

According to the West African tenets of Vodou, a dead person can be revived by a bokor, or sorcerer. Zombies remain under the control of the bokor since they have no will of their own. “Zombi” is also another name of the Vodou snake lwa Damballah Wedo, of Niger–Congo origin; it is akin to the Kikongo word nzambi, which means “god”.

There also exists within the West African Vodun tradition the zombi astral, which is a part of the human soul that’s kept by a bokor and used to enhance the bokor’s power.

In Haiti…

In 1937, while researching folklore in Haiti, Zora Neale Hurston encountered the case of a woman who appeared in a village, and a family claimed she was Felicia Felix-Mentor, a relative who had died and been buried in 1907 at the age of 29.

However, the woman had been examined by a doctor, who found on X-ray that she did not have the leg fracture that Felix-Mentor was known to have had.

Hurston pursued rumors that the affected persons were given a powerful psychoactive drug, but she was unable to locate individuals willing to offer much information. She wrote: “What is more, if science ever gets to the bottom of Vodou in Haiti and Africa, it will be found that some important medical secrets, still unknown to medical science, give it its power, rather than gestures of ceremony.” (Source, Wikipeedia).

Which of course, (at least in my humble opinion), is what differentiates Haitian zombies from government zombies.

Question: What corruption?

resurrection graphic 2a

(Jesus Christ – mankind’s Lord and Savior).

This of course, is disputed by atheists around the world who would have you believe…

Atheism is a social and political movement in favour of atheism and secularism promoted by a collection of modern atheist writers who have advocated the view that “religion should not simply be tolerated but should be countered, criticized, and exposed by rational argument wherever its influence arises.”

There is doubt about how much influence the movement has had on religious demographics, albeit the increase in atheist groups, publications and public appearances are agreed with the non-religious being the largest growing demographic…

Closely followed by Islam and evangelicalism in the U.S. and UK.

New Atheism lends itself to and often overlaps with secular humanism and antitheism, particularly in its criticism of the indoctrination of children and the perpetuation of ideologies. (Source, Wikipedia).

In closing today, I’d like to share a secret with “you” and with all of America that has absolutely nothing to do with zombies or the undead.

As a third-generation Iowa farmer Henry Whipple is locked into family tradition and finds himself willing to do whatever it takes, i.e., “at any price” to maintain the family farm in the black.

Which of course isn’t a practice restricted to farming, with the cost of doing business and taxes rising faster than a bottle rocket under the Obama administration, cutting corners and cheating is pretty much standard practice everywhere in our society….

And if you think it’s bad now, close your eyes for a moment, take a deep breath and let it out, and there you go. Things are worse now than they were when I began writing that last sentence…

I started with Natural Order, then I read Meaningful and Superfluous, Presumably, New Deal versus Bad Deal, and so on until I reach your readers forum entitled Indian giver, and of course since Sundays follows Saturdays, I couldn’t wait to logon the following morning.

Which, if I may say so, was totally out of the ballpark from what I was expecting. So I read further back in your archives to get a better sense of what you’re about and the more I read the more I understood just how little I know about the political process in this country and how little I know about people in general.

I didn’t vote for Barack Obama either time because I am a retired Navy pilot, so I voted for McCain and I also voted for McCain because I liked Sarah Palin.

I thought she was smarter than Barack Obama then and I haven’t changed my mind sense.

I’m 76 years old and I still live in the same house I was born in Rosemead. I was five years old when the second world war began, so I didn’t understand hate beyond the childish animosity I felt towards my younger brother when he broke something that belonged to me.

By the wars end I’d lost my father and an uncle in the Pacific and another uncle in Europe.

My brother enlisted in the Army in 1962, and volunteered to go to Vietnam before anyone in America knew that there was a war in Vietnam. He stayed for three years until his luck ran out.

I never married because I didn’t want to have a child that might die in a senseless war.

If you’re the President of United States, the people you work for pay men with guns to protect you.

Question: Who “protects” the people that pay to protect the President?

The people who pay to protect the Pres., also pay to protect themselves by paying taxes…

Like we didn’t have enough policing agencies in this country carrying guns?

Branch Davidian compound 1

(Branch Davidian compound – Waco Texas – 1993).

The Waco siege was a siege of a compound belonging to the religious group Branch Davidians by American federal and Texas state law enforcement and military between February 28 and April 19, 1993.

The Branch Davidians, a Christian sect led by David Koresh, lived at Mount Carmel Center ranch in the community of Elk, Texas, nine miles east-northeast of Waco.

The group was suspected of weapons violations and a search and arrest warrant was obtained by the U.S. federal agency Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF).

The incident began when the ATF attempted to raid the ranch. An intense gun battle erupted, resulting in the deaths of four agents and six Branch Davidians. Upon the ATF’s failure to raid the compound, a siege was initiated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the standoff lasting 51 days. Eventually, the FBI launched an assault and initiated a tear gas attack in an attempt to force the Branch Davidians out. During the attack, a fire engulfed Mount Carmel Center and 76 men, women, and children, including David Koresh, died. (Source, Wikipedia).

Not a proud day in America to be sure, albeit (our never take responsibility for their actions government’s solution), Janet Reno, “our” U.S. Attorney General (at the time), made things right by going on television and telling the country that it was her fault.

As with anything and everything in America, “we the people,” (the taxpayers), pick up the tab.

We not only pay “our” representatives an average of three times what they would make if they worked in an industry that actually produced something, ..we pay for their health costs, ..we pay for their transportation, ..we also pay for their three-hour lunches and their cocktails after four…

Our government, i.e., which is a “Democratic Republic” was not designed to create and sell a product, “our” governments sole purpose is to manage and serve the people.

Is the Government in your rearview mirror?

in your rearview mirror

Between Alec Baldwin wanting to know what’s in your wallet and William Devane asking you what’s in your safe, one has to wonder if there’s anyone left in this country who has read the Fourth Amendment?

modern American family 3

(Modern American family).

fourth amendment text 1

The Fourth Amendment (Amendment IV) to the United States Constitution is the part of the Bill of Rights that prohibits unreasonable searches and seizures and requires any warrant to be judicially sanctioned and supported by probable cause. It was adopted in response to the abuse of the writ of assistance, a type of general search warrant issued by the British government and a major source of tension in pre-Revolutionary America.

The Fourth Amendment was introduced in Congress in 1789 by James Madison, along with the other amendments in the Bill of Rights, in response to Anti-Federalist objections to the new Constitution. Congress submitted the amendment to the states on September 28, 1789. By December 15, 1791, the necessary three-quarters of the states had ratified it.

Thomas Jefferson - portrait 1

(Thomas Jefferson).

On March 1, 1792, Secretary of State Thomas Jefferson announced the adoption of the amendment.

Because the Bill of Rights did not initially apply to the states, and federal criminal investigations were less common in the first century of the nation’s history, there is little significant case law for the Fourth Amendment before the 20th century.

The amendment was held to apply to the states in Mapp v. Ohio (1961). Under the Fourth Amendment, search and seizure (including arrest) had to be limited in it’s scope according to specific information supplied to the issuing court, by a law enforcement officer who has sworn by it.

Fourth Amendment case law deals with three central questions: what government activities constitute “search” and “seizure”; what constitutes probable cause for these actions; and how violations of Fourth Amendment rights should be addressed.

Early court decisions limited the amendment’s scope to a law enforcement officer’s physical intrusion onto private property, but with Katz v. United States (1967), the Supreme Court held that its protections, such as the warrant requirement, extend to the privacy of individuals as well as physical locations.

Law enforcement officers need a warrant for most search and seizure activities, but the Court has defined a series of exceptions for consent searches, motor vehicle searches, evidence in plain view, exigent circumstances, border searches, and other situations.

The exclusionary rule is one way the amendment is enforced. Established in Weeks v. United States (1914), this rule holds that evidence obtained through a Fourth Amendment violation is generally inadmissible at criminal trials.

Evidence discovered as a later result of an illegal search may also be inadmissible as “fruit of the poisonous tree,” unless it inevitably would have been discovered by legal means. (Source Wikipedia).

If memory serves, (and it does), the first telephone my family ever had was a large black apparatus that hung on the wall between our dining room and our kitchen.

Its most fascinating attribute was a hand crank on the left side that featured a small pear-shaped brass knob.

It’s most annoying feature was the six other families on the same line.

My point, folks weren’t any more fond of someone having access to their privacy when I was a lad, than they are now.

Question: So why do we elect people to represent us in this nation that either don’t understand the “Fourth Amendment” of our Constitution, ..or who simply don’t respect it?
