The Thinker..

Question: How much thought do you think Auguste Rodin put into the creation of the thinker?

“The Thinker” is a bronze and marble sculpture by Auguste Rodin, whose first cast, of 1902, is now in the Musée Rodin in Paris; there are some 20 other original castings, as well as various other versions, studies, and posthumous castings.

It depicts a man in sober meditation battling with a powerful internal struggle. It is often used to represent philosophy.

According to Webster: phi·los·o·phy, (in context) Inquiry into the nature of things based on logical reasoning rather than empirical science.

Historical fact…

The “Thinker” was originally named “The Poet”, the piece was part of a commission by the Musée des Arts Décoratifs,Paris, to create a monumental portal to act as the door of the museum. Rodin based his theme on The Divine Comedy of Dante and entitled the portal “The Gates of Hell.”

Each of the statues in the piece represented one of the main characters in the epic poem. Some critics believe “The Thinker” was originally intended to depict “Dante” at the Gates of Hell, pondering his great poem.

However, there are “questionable” aspects to this interpretation, including the fact that the figure is naked.

Dante is fully clothed throughout his poem, and that the figure, as used, in no way corresponds to Dante’s (effete) figure…

 Dante Alighieri (1265-1321)

According to Webster: ef·fete, (in context) Depleted of vitality, or force; exhausted.

..(In the final sculpture, a miniature of the statue is waiting atop the gates, pondering the hellish fate of those beneath him.) The sculpture is nude, as Rodin wanted a heroic figure in the tradition of Michelangelo, to represent intellect as well as poetry.

Of Historical interest…

This detail from the Gate of Hell was first named “The Thinker” by foundry workers, who noted its similarity to Michelangelo’s statue of “Lorenzo de Medici” called “Il Penseroso” ..and/or, ..(the Thinker). (Source Wikipedia)

Alluding to your absolute best “judgment and imagination” ..what do you think Barack Obama is thinking?

Alluding to your absolute best “judgment and imagination,” ..what does Michelle Obama’s expression say to you?

America needs a grown-up in the White House…

Using information that is available to you now, .. (that wasn’t available) to you in 2008, (to include the image above) ..what do you honestly (think) this man’s chances are of remaining in residence at the White House after November?

America needs an American grown-up.

Barack Obama, 2008 was granted an opportunity of a lifetime, opportunity that previously only forty-three men, the “entire,” (two hundred and thirty-six year history of America) ..have been granted, ..and, ..(at least in my humble opinion,) ..he, (via his wrongheaded progressive liberal socialistic ideology) has screwed up and wasted every minute of it, ..his minutes, ..your minutes, ..and my minutes.

…as well as trillions of dollars.

What the hell was I thinking?

Think about it, I’ll be back tomorrow
