What is a Blog?

Blog..? A word or term that Webster’s has yet to deal with? ..so I’m going to the web; A “blog,” according to the “Wikipedia,” free Encyclopedia is; 1. (a blend of the term web/log.) is a type of website or part of a website. Blogs are usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse-chronological order. Blog can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.

Most blogs are interactive, allowing visitors to leave comments and even message each other via widgets on the blogs and it is this interactivity that distinguishes them from other static websites. 2.Many blogs provide commentary or news on a particular subject; others function as more personal online diaries. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, Web pages, and other media related to its topic. The ability of readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important part of many blogs. Most blogs are primarily textual, although some focus on art (art blog), photographs (photoblog), videos (videoblogging), music (MP3 blog), and audio (podcasting). Microblogging is another type of blogging, featuring very short posts.

As of 16 February 2011 (2011 -02-16, ..there were over 156 million public blogs in existence.

History; The history of blogging and online diary. The term “weblog” was coined by Jorn Barger on 17 December 1997. The short form, “blog,” was coined by Peter Merhoiz, who jokingly broke the word weblog into the phrase we blog in the sidebar of his blog Peterme.com in April or May 1999. Shortly thereafter, Even Williams at Pyra Labs used “blog” as both a noun and verb (“to blog,” meaning “to edit one’s weblog or to post to one’s weblog”) and devised the term “blogger” in connection with Pyra Labs’ Blogger product, leading to the popularization of the terms.

Wikipedia of course goes on for thirty-two more pages identifying pretty much any and every use and aspect of blogging. However, ..I’m pretty much satisfied with what I’ve learned about what a blog is up to this point, ..nevertheless, ..if anyone wants to know more, simply Google the word “blog” as I did, ..and go for it.

Anyway, now that we know what a blog is? I think I’ll move on to why I’ve decided to write a blog, .. Why not? I listen to one or another talking heads pretty much every day, and although I agree with some of the things that some of the talking heads have to say, there is as much that they say that I don’t agree with? I also talk to one of my brothers pretty much every day and although we have plenty of other things to talk about, at some point our conversations will come around to discussing what one or the other of us has heard one of Mediaville’s talking heads proclaim or deny? Consequently over time, ..at times my brother has challenged me to spread my wings, ..i.e. instead of simply sharing my thoughts and opinions with him, I should share my thoughts and opinions with the world, ..Whenever that might be? So here I am for whatever it’s worth?

Earlier today while dropping off my grandson’s laptop to be restored to working order by my favorite computer tech., and good friend, (name withheld for personal privacy,) .. Mike, our friendly unabashed “Dish Network” dealer and representative, asked me if I had attended Woodstock? A trick question? ..No, ..A reasonable question as on numerous occasions when I stop by to see my friend, (name withheld,) Mike and I engage in conversations that can very from the weather, to nuclear fusion? ..Well maybe not nuclear fusion, ..however we do get into covering some pretty odd topics at times? Mike is an enjoyable person, but then what’s not to enjoy, he likes my cooking. (Inside information, issued only on a need to know basis.) ..other than the name my mother gave me and crusader rabbit, I am also known around the store where my friend works, as the burrito guy.

However, enough about me, my purpose when I began this blog, was to research the origin of the word blog? .. And it would seem that I have done that, ..mission accomplished, at least to my satisfaction. Accordingly, ..in closing, although my public (both of you.) may be growing weary of my incessant displeasure with those, that, “we the people,” employ in Washington to protect and serve this great nation, ..as myself, ..Crusader Rabbit and ..the burrito guy, I feel duty bound to once again reiterate my message, ..next year, ..2012,  ..Vote not for the incumbent.

Crusader Rabbit…
